Madelaine told a story the other day. She said a little 3 year old girl ran up to her on the playground in a flurry of excitement. Smiling up at Madelaine, the girl blurted out, "I'm invited to a birthday party." "Oh, how wonderful," said Madelaine, enamored by the child's uncontainable joy. Once again the child looked up innocently at Madelaine and asked, "What's a birthday party?"

Giving birth to the ego self is the most painful experience we will ever have. God created us in perfection, love, and completeness. Yet, "enough is enough," we said. "I can't stand this bliss any longer. There must be another way to live. What does God know anyway?" Here, labor begins. And the first nine months is just the beginning. Once that part ends the world says we deserve a celebration for this special day. Gotta make it look good. Then the real labor begins. Well, enough is enough. It is time to go on strike. Enough of this toiling in this so-called titillating illusion.

What is a birthday party? Holy Spirit's invitation to Innocence. To be willing to come to Love, even though we have forgotten what Love is. Though, like the child in the story, Holy Spirit holds this memory of true joy for us. We simply RSVP with our willingness. If we choose to show up and be WILLING to step back and let Holy Spirit show us how to give our Self away, WE SHALL BE GIVEN THE GIFT OF REMEMBERING. Then, LOVE HAPPENS.
